Airtel official commits suicide in Bihar

A senior official of Bharti Airtel, one of Asia’s leading integrated telecom services providers with operations in many countries, Lalan Kumar Chaudhary committed suicide today due to family dispute, police said.

Police said the victim was working as an area manager in Samstipur district of Bihar.

Victim’s wife is a senior agricultural scientist posted at the Rajendra Agricultural Institute, Pusa (Samastipur), a few hour drive from the Bihar capital of Patna.

According to a report of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) released recently, Bihar tops the list of states in India in matter of family suicides.

The NCRB report said a total of 102 cases of family suicides were reported in 2008, which is 35 percent of total 289 suicide cases reported in the whole of India.

Of the total 102 suicide victims, 66 were women and 36 men while 44 were minor girls.
