Virginia Tech Shooting Massacre: Three years after

San Francisco (GaeaTimes.com) Three years ago, on April 16, 2007, the deadliest rampage by a single gunman happened in the US history as 32 students and faculty were killed before the attacker shot himself. Several others were badly injured. Some of the students survived as they pretended to be dead.

The shooter was a senior English major student at Virginia Tech. His name was Seung Hui Cho. He opened fire in a dorm and classroom before police in Blacksburg, Virginia could respond. It was found that Cho had been declared mentally ill previously.

The massacre opened eyes of many national lawmakers and some laws about purchasing guns had to be scrutinized. Mental Health care for students and how schools warn students about emergencies had to be inspected with a closer look. The Virginia Tech Killer, though mentally ill was able to legally buy his handguns because the law did not enforce that his mental health records would need to be reported for the federal background check system. Virginia Tech Review Panel that all private sales at gun shows must be processed through the background check system. Though some problems have been fixed at the state level of Virginia but allegedly there are many states where it is still easy to purchase firearms without any background checks.

The school will hold several events to remember the day this Friday. A 3.2 mile run will start on campus right by the Virginia Tech flag to remember the students and teachers who were killed in that event. In the afternoon, a candlelight vigil will be held on the drill-field. All classes will be cancelled for the day.
