LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The case about the release of the crime scene photos of Sonja Larson has come into the forefront again as her mother, Ada Larson, has decided to voice her protests in a similar case. In regards to some recent cases that have been creating an uproar, concerning the release of the video of the SeaWorld trainer Dawn Branchaeu, and the passing of the Meredith Emerson Memorial Act, she spoke, in a recent interview, about how such pictures and videos should never be released, keeping in mind the long term effect they might have on the concerned families and the public in general.
After her daughter, Sonja Larson, still a student of a college in Florida, fell victim to the Gainsville Ripper in 1990, there was a huge debate as to whether the public should be granted access to the Sonja Larson crime scene photos. The photos had generated an unnatural amount of interest, possibly due to the fact that they were reported to be gruesome. The killer had apparently mutilated the bodies of his female victims almost beyond recognition, and had kept them in horrible poses in the crime scenes.
At that point of time, Ada Larson, along with a lawyer, had fought vehemently against the release of the Sonja Larson crime scene photos, saying that the release would have the pictures imprinted on her mind, and that she would never, ultimately, be able to push away the horror and sorrow of the loss in the recesses of her mind. She brought forth the same arguments in the Dawn Branchaeu case too, saying that such pictures bring back the horror of the situation and make it worse for families trying to cope with their loss.
