RAIPUR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- As many as 76 security personnel were killed today in one of the most devastating attacks by the Naxals in Chattisgarh. The incident took place in the forests of Mukrana in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, which is famed as a Maoist area. The Naxal Attack was launched between 6 am and 7 am in the morning, taking 100 CRPF personnel and state police who were on the way, completely unawares. 74 of the people killed were CRPF personnel while one of them was a head constable. The Maoists first blew up a vehicle near Chintalnar-Tarmetla village in the Dantewada district.

“Operation Green Hunt” was launched by the Chattisgarh state police in order to mark their start of a battle against the Maoists. Little did they know that the Naxal Attack would occur on their way home. The police have reached the area to throw out the Maoists. The wounded have been shifted to hospital.

P.C. Chidambaram has expressed great shock on the Naxal Attack. He said that casualties were high, so he would definitely deploy more police in the area. He also said that the personnel most probably stepped upon a trap that was set up by the Maoists, they were probably being watched by the Maoists thus making the naxal attack a success. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also expressed extreme shock and grief over the unfortunate affair.

After the horrifying incident led to the butchering of so many jawans, an alert has been sounded in the adjoining areas, as well as in Bihar.
