VIRGINIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Paul Warner Powell, a resident of Virginia was put to death by the electric chair as per the court sentence that was given to him. The 31-year-old convict did not choose lethal injection for his execution. When the prosecutors asked him for any final word he remained mum. The crime which led to his conviction took place almost 10 years back. He raped and killed a 16-year-old girl whose only fault was that she had a black boyfriend. He did not stop at that and raped her sister and tried to kill her too. The sister of the hapless Stacie Reed was lucky and she survived the assault. She helped in nabbing him. Later the convict said that he committed the crime in a fit of rage and had later understood that it was quite pointless.
Paul Warner Powell wrote taunting notes to the prosecutor of the case and this led to his re-conviction in 2003. The attorney of the Prince William County Commonwealth, Paul Ebert, received a long letter full of vulgar words and a lucid description of his crime from Paul Warner Powell. The governor Bob McDonnell refused to thwart the execution. His attorney said that in the course of time he changed as a person. His appeals were rejected by the judiciary.
Paul Warner Powell was executed in the Greensville Correctional Center. The family of the victim whom he ruthlessly slaughtered years back expressed their relief at getting judgment. He avoided the injection method possibly because a wrong dosage can result in prolonged pain instead of swift death.
