ATLANTA, GEORGIA (GaeaTimes.com)- A Georgia court has ruled on Wednesday that the pictures of Meredith Emerson, which show her after her death, and subsequently decapitated and undressed, should not be issued to the public as part of any open record request. The verdict was given out with regard to the request placed by a porn magazine to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The verdict comes right in the middle of the legislation that is being considered by the lawmakers in the state. It is being considered that the legislation, if passed, is going to have an immense effect on the open record requests that are often filed.
The legislation states that the authorities would not be allowed to grant public access to those pictures or representations that depict crime victims graphically. The request for the pictures of Meredith Emerson, who had been killed after she went hiking, was filed by the porn magazine. However, the reporter for the magazine, who actually filed the request with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, did not state a reason, and the office of the magazine did not respond to or return the calls that were placed to them in this regard.
The verdict was passed by Judge Daniel Coursey, of the DeKalb Superior Court of Georgia, who stated that the request was a vile and indecent one. His sentiment on the matter echoed that of the Senators, who also stated that the pictures should in no way be released to a pornographic magazine of all things, as the publication of the Meredith Emerson pictures would most likely be having a terribly adverse effect on her family.
