S.P.S Rathore Stabbed By Youth Outside Court

CHANDIGARH, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Former Haryana DGP S.P.S Rathore was stabbed by a youth on Monday outside a Chandigarh district court, where he was present for the hearing in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case. The 68 year old former police officer was stabbed repeatedly by the man with the help of a knife just as S.P.S Rathore came out of the district court. Following the incident, the former DGP was taken to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in the city, where he received immediate treatment.

The youth who stabbed S.P.S Rathore has been identified as 24 year old Utsav Sharma, who is hails from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Witnesses have revealed that the youth, who is pursuing a film production course in Ahmedabad, stabbed S.P.S Rathore with one hand and at the same time constantly punched the former IPS officer with his other hand. However, before he could cause any more injuries, the youth was immediately overpowered by the police authorities and was taken into custody for further interrogation. It has been also come to light that the man was clicking pictures while being present along with the other media persons waiting outside the courtroom, when he suddenly attacked S.P.S Rathore.

Meanwhile, after receiving preliminary treatment at the hospital, the former Haryana DGP is said to have returned to the courtroom for the proceedings. S.P.S Rathore was found guilty of molesting the 15 year old promising tennis player way back in 1990. The former IPS officer was granted bail in the 19 year old molestation case, in which he was convicted and was sentenced to a six months rigorous imprisonment.
