CAIRO - Coptic churches across Egypt were preparing to hold Christmas masses Thursday night, less than a week after a bombing outside a church in the city of Alexandria killed 23 people.

Groups of people on the internet, especially on the popular Facebook networking website, called on Muslims to gather outside churches during mass in solidarity with Coptic Christians, who celebrate Christmas Jan 7.

The bombing, which took place during a mass at the Alexandria church on New Year’s Eve, has sparked daily protests by both Muslim and Christian citizens across Egypt.
