Ban on night trains lifted — partly

KOLKATA - Authorities Friday decided to resume train traffic at night in Chakradharpur-Rourkela section but said the ban will remain in the Kharagpur-Tata and Kharagpur-Adra areas due to Maoist threats.

The South Eastern Railway had restricted the movement of trains between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in Kharagpur-Adra, Kharagpur-Tata and Chakradharpur-Rourkela sections.

This followed the May 28 Gyaneshwari Express sabotage in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district that killed 148 people. The attack was blamed on Maoists.

The latest decision follows meetings between railway officials and security forces.
