ISTANBUL - A historic 16th century mosque in Istanbul received a bomb threat Friday that later turned out to be a hoax call, police said.

The Yeni Camii or New Mosque, located in Eminonu district, is one of the best known sights of Istanbul.

The bomb threat resulted in police closing all roads in the vicinity and thoroughly checking pedestrians’ bags, but officials later said it was a false alarm, Xinhua reported.
