ISLAMABAD - One child was killed and 26 others, including four women and eight children, were injured in a bomb blast in Pakistan’s Peshawar city Thursday.

The blast, which took place in the city’s Yadgar Chowk, targeted people who were going to their homes after their Ashura procession concluded.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ijaz Khan told reporters that “it was a time- device and targeted people who were going to their homes after the procession concluded”.

“The terrorists could not penetrate the main procession throughout the day because of strict security,” he stated.

The Ashura processions during the Muslim month of Muharram are taken out by Shia community to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
