BHUBANESWAR - One Maoist was killed in a gun battle with security forces Wednesday in a forested area of Orissa’s Sundergarh district, officials said.

“The gun battle broke out near Bisra, a town near the Jharkhand border, and continued for about an hour,” state director of intelligence Prakash Mishra said.

“We have recovered the body of one Maoist,” Mishra told IANS.

The gunfight began when security forces spotted some Maoists in the area during a combing operation Tuesday night and raided the area Wednesday, the officer said.

Sundergarh is over 400 km from here.
