NEW DELHI - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and briefed him of the security situation in the state in the light of increased incursion attempts from across the border.

Abdullah said one of the reasons behind the increased infiltration was that militant groups were coming together to give a push and the melting of passes in the summer months could witness more incursions, official sources said.

There has been more terrorism related incidents in the state in the last month.

On Thursday, an Indian Army captain was killed and two guerrillas were shot dead in a gunfight. This is the second incident of an officer being killed in less than 10 days.

The two also discussed the state’s amnesty proposal for Kashmiri militants in Pakistan who want to give up arms and join the mainstream, the sources said.
