Infiltration in Kashmir up: President Patil

NEW DELHI - Militant incursion from Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir had gone up, President Pratibha Patil said Monday while also stressing that the security situation in the state had improved “significantly” in the state as well as in the northeast.
President Patil was addressing the joint session of parliament at the beginning of the budget session.
She said the overall internal security, law and order and the communal situation remained largely under control during the last year.
“(But) infiltration from across the Line of Control (the de facto border that divides the state between India and Pakistan) in Jammu and Kashmir has gone up. Even, then the security situation has improved significantly in Jammu and Kashmir as well as in the northeast,” she said.
