ISLAMABAD - At least two policemen and a security man were killed Thursday in two separate attacks on security personnel in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where 20 people were killed in a suicide blast a day earlier.

A roadside bomb targeting a police van killed two police officials and injured five others in Jani Khel area of Bannu district, close to the scene of Wednesday’s suicide attack.

According to Pakistani daily The News, the officials were hit while patrolling in the area.

In another incident that happened shortly after the explosion, a security official was killed in an attack targeting a check-post in the Bara area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Express Tribune reported.

This is the third explosion since Wednesday evening after at least 20 people, among them six policemen, were killed and 15 others were injured when a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a mosque next to a police station in Bannu district.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, two back-to-back blasts in Panchgai area of Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed two women.

The restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the northwestern tribal region have become a battleground for security officials against Taliban and Al Qaeda militants.
