BAGHDAD - An Iraqi man killed his daughter after he discovered that she had been recruited by Al Qaeda, police sources said Friday.

“Nijm Abd turned himself in to police after killing his daughter when he discovered she works with Al Qaeda to carry out bombing attacks in Baquba city,” the sources told DPA.

The daughter was in her early 20s.

“The forces informed me a few days ago that my daughter is working for Al Qaeda and I watched her and made sure she belongs to the group,” sources quoted the father as saying, the Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

“She was planning to blow herself up,” he added.

Baquba, once a stronghold of al-Qaeda, is the ethnically mixed capital of Diyala, which remains one of the country’s most unstable provinces. Baquba is located some 57 km north of Baghdad.
