ISLAMABAD - Unidentified militants bombed a girls school Tuesday morning in Pakistan’s Mohmand tribal region bordering Afghanistan, a media report said.

The number of schools destroyed by militants in the region has risen to 57 so far, Xinhua reported.

Two girls schools and a boys school were destroyed in blasts Sunday morning.

Over 200 schools have been destroyed in the adjacent Malakand region during the past couple of years.

The Taliban believes that modern education, particularly education for girls, is not in line with Islamic scriptures. They have been trying to implement their own version of Shariah or Islamic law in the insurgency-plagued tribal areas.
