ISLAMABAD - At least seven alleged militants were killed when suspected US unmanned aircraft fired two missiles at a compound in Pakistan’s troubled tribal region along the Afghan border Friday, security officials said.

The CIA-operated drone hit a compound in the Boya area of North Waziristan district, a known bastion of suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda-associated militants.

“We have reports that a US drone fired two missiles on a compound which was used by Taliban,” an intelligence official said on the condition of anonymity.

“Seven suspected militants are killed in the attack while four more injured,” he said.

Another intelligence official who also sought anonymity said that a second drone targeted the people who had come to recover the dead and injured from the debris, adding that the death toll might rise.

The US military has intensified drone strikes in recent weeks in Pakistan’s tribal region. In those strikes over 150 suspected militants were killed since Sep 3.

Ten people, including eight suspected German nationals, died in an attack by unmanned aircraft early this week.
