Britain warns of terror threat in India

NEW DELHI - Britain Monday warned of a terror threat in India and asked its nationals to be vigilant, a day after two tourists from Taiwan were shot near Delhi’s Jama Masjid.

“There is a high threat from terrorism throughout India. Terrorists have targeted places in the past which Westerners are known to visit, including public places such as restaurants, hotels, railway stations, markets and places of worship,” the British High Commission here said.

Two Taiwanese, Ko Chang and Ku Ze Wei, were shot in the head and stomach respectively when gunmen opened random fire at a bus from which tourists was alighting near the 16th century Jama Masjid Sunday morning.

The high commission asked its citizens to check security arrangements when deciding which places to visit, including key government installations and tourist sites.

It asked them to be extra careful while travelling on public transport including buses, trains and the Metro.
