KOLKATA - Suspected Maoists Monday shot dead an unidentified man in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district claiming he was a police spy, an official said.

The body was found near the Nayagram area in the district. “Maoist posters were found at the spot,” Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma said.

The posters claimed that the man was a police informer who pretended to be mentally challenged, police sources said.

Maoists are mainly active in West Bengal’s three western districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
