NEW YORK - A vehicle with two gas canisters inside it has been spotted near Union Square here, a media report said.

Police and bomb squad agents were investigating the vehicle.

A pedestrian saw two gas canisters inside the parked car and called the police.

Xinhua news agency reported that streets and buildings nearby have been evacuated as a precaution, and bomb squad experts with a robot were working at the scene.

On May 1, a crude car bomb made from gasoline, propane, firecrackers and alarm clocks was discovered in a smoking van on Times Square. Two days later, Faisal Shahzad, a naturalised US citizen from Pakistan, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
