RAIPUR - Six troopers were killed Saturday when Maoist guerrillas blew up a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicle in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a top police officer said.

“The Maoists blew up a bullet-proof vehicle in the Koretal forested stretch. At least six CRPF men were killed and a few injured,” Director General of Police Vishwa Ranjan told IANS over telephone.

The dead men were from the 168 CRPF battalion, he said. Bijapur is nearly 480 km south of Raipur, the state capital.

The attack took place in the sprawling Bastar region, where the Maoists slaughtered 76 security personnel April 6, in the worst such attack since the leftwing insurgency began four decades ago.
