Orissa to hold camps in Maoist hit areas

BHUBANESWAR - Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday directed government officials to hold camps and listen to the grievances of people in areas worst hit by Maoists, an official said.
Patnaik reviewed the progress of various welfare schemes carried out by the government in four southern districts which are worst hit by Maoists.
“He told top administrative and police officials of the affected districts to hold camps every Saturday and listen to the grievances of the people and solve their problems,” a senior official in the chief minister’s office told IANS.
“The officials have been told to hold camps at block and tehsil headquarters,” he said.
The Wednesday meeting held at the state secretariat was attended by collectors and superintendents of police of Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Rayagada districts and senior state administrative and police officials.
Maoists are active in more than half of the state’s 30 districts. Patnaik is likely to review progress of different welfare schemes in other affected districts soon, the official said.
