Digvijay Singh is a confused leader, says Chhattisgarh CM

RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Monday described the Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh a “confused leader” on the Maoist issue.

“Digvijay Singh is a confused leader on Naxal issue,” Raman Singh remarked in response to a letter sent by the former chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh to Raman Singh seeking a debate with him on issue of rise of Maoist menace in the state.

The exchange of allegations between the two leaders began mid-April when Digvijay Singh wrote an article in a national daily holding the Chhattisgarh government responsible for the rising Maoist violence.

Raman Singh reacted to the article last week and distributed his own article titled ‘Honey, I Sunk Bastar’ to mediamen here, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader blamed Digvijay Singh for rising Maoism.

The Chhattisgarh chief minister said in his article: “The seven years of Digvijay Singh’s regime, during undivided Madhya Pradesh, is considered a dark age in the history of Chhattisgarh”.

He wrote that there were “several inputs on Naxals consolidating their presence in existing areas and also making inroads into new areas in the region but Digvijay Singh’s government slept over it”.

“I will reply to all 10 questions comprehensively to the Congress leader and is also ready to have a debate on who is responsible for rise of Maoist menace in the state,” said Raman Singh, who is heading the BJP government in Chhattisgarh since December 2003.
