BHUBANESWAR - Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday sought Rs.762 crore from the central government to develop roads in Maoist-affected districts of the state, officials said.

Patnaik met union Road Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath in New Delhi and discussed various issues of concern facing the state for development of road infrastructure.

He informed the union minister about how leftwing extremism in certain parts of the state has caused additional requirement of road network. Patnaik requested the minister to sanction at least 19 road projects in the affected districts, the chief minister’s office said in a statement.

More than half of the state’s 30 districts are Maoist affected.
