38 militants killed in Pakistan’s northwest

PESHAWAR - At least 38 militants and two security personnel were killed Monday in the ongoing military operations in Pakistan’s restive northwest.

Fighting resumed in the Lower Orakzai tribal agency when militants attacked a security checkpost Monday morning, killing two security personnel and wounding nine others, Online news agency reported, quoting security officials.

They said the military launched a retaliatory operation and pounded several militant hideouts, destroying at least three of them and killing 38 terrorists.

More than 300 militants have been so far killed in Orakzai agency operation, launched three weeks ago.

An official of the local administration said the security forces were targeting militants’ hideouts with helicopter gunships.

According to the official, most of the Orakzai area has been brought under the control of the security forces.
