Six convicted for 1996 Lajpat Nagar bomb blast

NEW DELHI - A city court Thursday convicted six accused, including a woman, in the 1996 Lajpat Nagar bomb blast which killed 13 people and injured 39. Four accused were set free.
District and sessions judge S.P. Garg held Nisar Naza, Naushad, Mahmood Killey and Javed Khan guilty for murder, attempt to murder, conspiracy and mischief.
The quantum of sentence of all the convicts will be decided April 13. The four accused convicted for murder face a maximum punishment of death penalty.
The two other convicts were held guilty under the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act.
Farooq Ahmed Khan was convicted under section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Lone woman convict, Farida Dar, was convicted under Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Both face a maximum punishment of seven years.
Those acquitted were identified as Ifteqhar alias Saba, Latif Waza, Maqbool Shah and Abdul Ghani.
