SRINAGAR - A policeman who foiled an attack on a Congress leader’s house in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been promoted and given cash reward, police said Monday.

Constable Mushtaq Ahmad was given one rank promotion and Rs.10,000 by Farooq Ahmad, inspector general of police.

Three militants had attacked Pulwama district Congress president Abdul Gani Dar’s house in Rohama village late Sunday. Mushtaq Ahmad opened fire killing one militant and injuring one more. The injured militant was later arrested.

The Congress leader had been provided with two personal security officers (PSOs), but only Mushtaq Ahmad was present when the attack took place, the police officer said.
