BAGHDAD - At least 42 people were killed and 65 injured Friday in two blasts northeast of Baghdad, ahead of the expected announcement of results of Iraq’s parliamentary elections, al-Arabiya channel said.

Two improvised explosive devices went off in a market, north of the province of Diyala’s capital, Baquba.

Authorities in Iraq tightened security in several provinces amid rising political tension and fears of violence in the ongoing dispute over the voting outcome.

Final results from the election held March 7 were expected later Friday.
