Naxalite leader Kanu Sanyal dead, suicide suspected

SILIGURI - Kanu Sanyal, one of the founding members of the Left extremist movement in India, was Tuesday found hanging in his thatched hut here. He was 78.

Sanyal is alleged to have committed suicide at his residence in the Siliguri sub-division of Darjeeling district, police said.

He was one of the protagonists of the 1967 peasant uprising in Naxalbari village that gave birth to the Maoist movement in India.
