CRPF trooper killed, five injured in Srinagar grenade attack (Second Lead)

SRINAGAR - A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper died of his injuries in a separatist guerrilla grenade attack here Sunday. Five other personnel were injured in the attack.

Separatist guerrillas lobbed a powerful hand grenade inside a parked CRPF vehicle near the local police station in the Zaina Kadal area of the old city Sunday afternoon injuring six CRPF personnel, including an officer sitting inside it.

“All the injured were taken to hospital for treatment where one head constable succumbed to his injuries,” a senior police officer told IANS.

Head constable Manoj Kumar, who was rushed to the hospital with other injured personnel, later died, the officer said.

He said the area was searched by the security forces after the blast for the runaway militants.

A spokesman of guerrilla outfit “Save Kashmir Movement” phoned a local news agency to claim responsibility for the attack.
