Suicide bombing kills five in Pakistan’s Swat Valley

ISLAMABAD - At least five people were killed and more than a dozen injured Saturday in a suicide attack on a security check post in northwestern Pakistan’s Swat Valley, police said.
The bombing took place on a busy street in Mingora, the main town in the restive district where Pakistani security forces launched a major offensive against Taliban militants last year.
An official at the police control room said at least one policeman and a soldier were among the five killed while 13 more people were injured.
“Apparently, it was a suicide attack,” the official said.
The bombing came a day after twin suicide attacks killed at least 48 people, including eight soldiers, and injured about 100 in the eastern city of Lahore. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.
