BRUSSELS - Pakistani terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is a dangerous group having global agenda, an anti-terrorism official of the European Union has said.

“We see LeT as a very dangerous organisation with a global agenda and not a local agenda. We have several hundred people leaving Europe for training camps,” said Gilles de Kerchove, EU’s counter-terrorism coordinator.

Referring to the ongoing reconstruction process in the war-torn Afghanistan, de Kerchove said all the neigbbours including Iran have an important role to play to restore peace and stability in that country, EUAsiaNews reported.

Meanwhile, NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Mark Sedwill, speaking at a separate press conference here Wednesday, reacted cautiously on a Pakistani army’s suggestion to train the Afghan security forces.

He said any offer of support from Afghanistan’s regional partners whether to the army, police or civil society to improve their capabilities is welcome.

“But it needs to be handled with great delicacy if its is relating to security forces because of regional tensions and rivalry,” said Sedwill, a former British ambassador to Afghanistan and Deputy High commissioner to Pakistan.

About India’s involvement in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, Sedwill said “There is a very substantial civil aid programme from India to Afghanistan including some major infrastructure projects and indeed they have a mechanism for training lot of civilians within India”.
