NEW DELHI - India Monday dismissed any terror threat to the Hockey World Cup saying all precautionary measures were in place to ensure fool proof security for the international sporting event.
It is the job of terrorists to declare jihad, our job is to take all precautions. There is no new, credible threat against the Hockey World Cup as such, union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai told reporters here.
Pillai was referring to the threat issued by Al Qaeda’s Pakistan wing last week to attack upcoming international sporting events in India, including the Hockey World Cup, Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament and the Commonwealth Games.
He said the government had taken all precautions to ensure security to the hockey event, which begins Feb 28. We take all threats seriously. We will ensure fool proof security for all players and events.
