Taliban’s ’shadow governors’ arrested in Pakistan: Army

ISLAMABAD - Taliban’s “shadow governors” of two Afghan provinces were arrested in a raid against insurgents in Balochistan, Pakistan military said Thursday.
Taliban’s so-called governor for Kunduz Mullah Abdul Salam and commander of the insurgents in Baghlan Mullah Mir Mohammad were arrested along with other militant leaders, an army official said.
The official, however, did not divulge other details citing security reason, Xinhua reported.
Earlier Thursday, an Afghan official said that Pakistan has captured two “shadow governors” belonging to Taliban militants.
The arrests of the high ranking Taliban leaders came amid the ongoing massive NATO-led military offensive against Taliban stronghold in Marja and Nad Ali districts of Helmand province in southern Afghanistan.
Pakistan army Wednesday confirmed the arrest of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Taliban’s second-in-command.
Mullah Baradar was reportedly arrested in a joint raids by the US and Pakistani intelligence in Karachi few days ago.
