SRINAGAR - A gun battle broke out between separatist guerrillas and security forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district Thursday morning.

A senior police officer said here that security forces surrounded a house in Shangarpora village, 37 km from here, in Pulwama district following specific information about presence of guerrillas inside.

“The holed-up militants were told to surrender, but they started firing at the cordoning troops, resulting in an encounter that is still going on,” the officer said.

Sources in Srinagar said two guerrillas were holed up inside the house, which has been surrounded by the troops.

Two separatist guerrillas belonging to the Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit were killed in another gun battle between security forces and separatist guerrillas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Wednesday.
