Bengal government should be more vigilant: Congress
By IANSTuesday, February 16, 2010
NEW DELHI - A day after 24 security personnel were killed in a Maoist attack in West Bengal, the Congress said the state’s Left Front government should be more vigilant as it is responsible for maintaining law and order.
The state government should be more vigilant because it has the primary responsibility of (maintaining) law and order, Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told IANS.
Describing the incident as very unfortunate, Ahmed said there was no place for violence in a civilised society. He said both the state and central governments should act in tandem to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The attack by Maoists Monday on a security force camp in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district left 24 security personnel dead. The incident took place at Shilda locality in the district when a group of Maoists opened fire at the camp of the joint security forces deployed to combat left-wing extremists.
