NEW DELHI - Israel Monday condemned in the strongest possible terms the bomb blast in Pune that killed nine people and left nearly 60 injured.

Israel condemns in the strongest possible terms the heinous terrorist attack in Pune which claimed innocent lives leaving many injured, said a statement released by the Israeli embassy here.

The blast took place Saturday evening at Pune’s popular German Bakery that is located near a Chabad House, a Jewish prayer house. The Chabad House in Mumbai was also one of the targets during the Nov 26, 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai.

The statement noted that global terrorism is a major threat that must be combated without let-up.

It added that Israel, which has suffered so much at the hands of unbridled terror, understands to the full the enormity of the tragedy.

Israel extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and its wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured, it added.

The US and Britain had condemned the terror bombing in messages Sunday, and asked their citizens to be on alert.

The Israel embassy has, however, not changed its travel advisory for its citizens in India.
