LeT militant killed in Kashmir gunfight

JAMMU - One Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in a gunfight with security forces in the mountainous forests of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, police said Monday.

Columns of army and state police threw a cordon around the forest of Triath in Rajouri district, about 100 km northwest of Jammu, Sunday evening. Security forces had received information about the presence of a group of militants there.

The gunfight between the encircling security forces and hiding militants continued for over three hours and ended past midnight. According to army officials, one LeT militant was killed while at least two others managed to escape.

An AK-47 rifle and ammunition were seized from the killed militant.

Security forces are searching the area to catch the other militants, said officials.
