NEW DELHI - Condemning the Pune terror attack, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sunday said the lapses in the country’s internal security should “be identified and rectified urgently”.

The party politburo said in a statement that “media reports on the prior warnings concerning a possible terror attack in Pune are indeed disturbing as these attacks have taken place despite this”.

“It is imperative in the interests of the countrys internal security that such lapses be identified and rectified urgently,” the politburo said.

The CPI-M also called upon the central government to provide “all necessary assistance to the Maharashtra state law and order machinery to jointly identify the culprits who perpetrated this heinous attack and bring the guilty to book”.

The party expressed its “heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack” and wished those injured “a speedy recovery”.

Nine people were killed and nearly 60 injured when a bomb exploded Saturday evening in the popular German Bakery, which is frequented by many foreigners.
