SRINAGAR - One policeman was injured in north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district Wednesday evening when separatist guerrillas attacked a police vehicle, officials said.

The militants hurled a grenade at the passing vehicle of a station house officer (SHO) near Lar village, 28 km from Srinagar, Superintendent of Police (Ganderbal) Mir Imtiyaz told IANS.

The grenade exploded near the passing police vehicle on the highway. One constable sustained minor injuries in the attack. The SHO and other occupants of the vehicle escaped unhurt, the district police chief said.

The attack come a day after the country’s Republic Day during which parades and flag hoisting functions were held throughout the Valley without any disruption by the guerrillas.

Authorities had mounted extraordinary vigil across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that the separatist guerrillas could not disrupt Republic Day celebrations.
