442 gallantry awards announced on Republic Day eve

NEW DELHI -Four hundred and forty-two armed forces personnel were named for gallantry awards Monday on the eve of Republic Day.
The awards include one Ashoka Chakra, six Kirti Chakras and 26 Shaurya Chakras, the top three awards for gallantry during peace time.
Havildar Rajesh Kumar of 11 Rajputana Rifles has been awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously. On Republic Day, the president will confer three Ashoka Chakras, including two announced earlier on (Independence Day) Aug 15 last year, a defence official said Monday.
