SRINAGAR - Two security men were injured in a gunfight between guerrillas hiding inside a house and troops who laid seige to it in Kulgam district in south Kashmir Wednesday evening.

“A Rashtriya Rifles contingent and the local police have surrounded the house in Tangmarg Watu village in Kulgam,” a senior police officer said. The gun battle site is 64 km from Srinagar city.

“When the holed-up militants were challenged to surrender, they opened fire and injured a local policeman and a Rastriya Rifles trooper.”

More troops have been rushed to the site and the house has been cordoned off, the official said.

The incident is the latest in a spate of similar militant attacks in the state.
