WASHINGTON - The United States has warned its citizens that while it has no specific threat information about the ICC Cricket World Cup in the Indian subcontinent, such large, high-profile events can be targets for terrorist attacks.

The warning came in a travel alert issued Thursday on safety and security issues related to the Cricket World Cup scheduled to be held in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka between Feb 19 and April 2.

Americans should note the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against US citizens and interests throughout the world, the State Department travel alert said.

Local authorities in the country where individual matches are held are responsible for security arrangements for the ICC Cricket World Cup, it said.
