RANCHI - A 50-member strong Maoist splinter group has been formed in Jharkhand, police said Sunday.

Known as Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), it has around 50 people trained in operating sophisticated weapons, a police officer told IANS on condition of anonymity.

“The new outfit organised a training camp for its members in the jungle bordering Latehar and Loharddga districts two days ago,” the police officer said.

Manjitji is the zonal commander of the new outfit.

“We have formed this outfit as we do not agree with the ideology of the Maoist organisations operating in the state,” Manjitji told mediapersons at his training camp Saturday.

Jharkhand has more than six Maoist outfits, including the Communist Party of India-Maoist and People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI).

Police sources said the new outfit was formed to corner a chunk of the estimated Rs.300 crore the guerrillas earn every year by extortion and other illegal activities.
