MOSCOW - At least 20 people were killed in a suicide explosion at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport Monday evening, media reports said.
The Investigative Committee’s Transport Investigative Department confirmed the explosion occurred at the luggage reclaim zone at the international arrivals terminal, Itar-Tass news agency reported.
However, according to RIA Novosti, the toll was 10.
Preliminary reports suggested that it might be a suicide bombing, adding that scores of other people were injured.
Eyewitnesses said there was heavy smoke at the airport and entry from the arrivals zone has been closed. The smoke was hampering officials from counting the exact toll.
DPA reported that all international flights to Domodedovo have been stopped. Security was tightened at other Moscow airports and on the capital’s underground rail system.
