KABUL - Afghan and NATO coalition forces have captured a Taliban leader, reported to be an expert in using improvised explosive devices, in southern Afghanistan, a NATO statement said Friday.
The Taliban leader, operating in Qalat district and responsible for targeting many coalition-force vehicles in the district, was arrested during a security operation in Zabul province Thursday, Xinhua reported citing a NATO news release.
Another report stated that the captured leader wanted a videotape of suicide bombings in order to plan future suicide attacks against coalition forces.
With his capture, security forces have detained 10 senior Taliban leaders and facilitators along with more than 40 Taliban insurgents since the beginning of the year.
The statement said no civilians were injured or detained during the operation.
