ROME - A “suspect” parcel possibly containing explosives was being examined Tuesday by experts after it was found in a Rome underground train, Italian news reports said.

The package contained steel pipes and what appeared to be flammable powder, the ANSA news agency said.

“Bomb disposal experts are checking to see if the device was dangerous or if it was deactivated,” Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno said.

A train engine driver discovered the package at the Rebibbia station, which lies on the Linea B (B Line) of Rome’s subway system.
