JAMMU/NEW DELHI - The Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday said it was their tip-off to Delhi Police that led to the arrest of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Abdullah Inquilabi, involved in a series of killings and abductions in the state, from the national capital.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police’s inputs played a crucial role in the arrest of Abdullah Inquilabi. We had shared information with Delhi Police,” Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Ashok Gupta told reporters here
Inquilabi was involved in at least 20 killings as also a number of abductions, Gupta said. “He used to operate in the Rajouri and Reasi belt of Jammu region,” he added.
Gupta said he did know exactly as to what took Inquilabi to Delhi. “The details would be known during interrogation, but it is suspected that he went to Delhi to set up a base for the terror outfit,” he said.
The 35-year-old Inquilabi, a Pakistani national, was caught after a brief gunfight around 9.30 p.m. Sunday in Hauz Khas area of south Delhi, a Delhi Police officer told IANS. “He fired at us and tried to escape, but was caught after a half-hour-long gun battle.”
