1,000 kg of explosives used in Karachi blast

ISLAMABAD - About 1,000 kg of explosives were used in the devastating blast in Karachi that left at least 19 people dead and over 100 injured, officials said Friday.

“The massive destruction caused by the blast leads to the reality that the vehicle used to carry out the attack must be carrying 1,000 kg of heavy explosive materials,” DIG Investigations Iftikhar Tarad said of the blast at the CID building Thursday night.

Four to five militants opened fire at the police personnel deployed at the main gate of the building to destroy the defence line, Tarad said.

It helped them gain access into the premises of the building, Geo TV reported quoting the official.

The militants then blew up the explosives that brought large scale devastation, he said. A white mini truck was used in the attack, he added.
